Particleboard, Plywood, OSB, Or Solid Wood—How To Choose

Match the substrate to the room, and judge environmental performance by certified grade, not marketing. Particleboard is stable and cost-effective-the default for cabinet carcasses. Plywood handles moisture better, ideal for under-sink units and balcony cabinets. OSB/LSB holds screws well and is often used for carcasses and load-bearing shelves. Solid wood looks and feels best, but demands proper moisture control and finishing to avoid warping. Don't shop by name alone. Check three things: the emission test report, edge-banding quality (laser > PUR), and hardware spec.
